Returned aboard Anastasia, I made a list of all the boat work I wanted to do. It was time to start fixing things.

I didn’t had much money available, so that means I had to keep everything as simple as possible and it was important to just make things work with what I had. A little later a friend came aboard for a few days and we got to hang out together. We used to be roomates while working aboard the cruise ships, so now we were roomates again aboard my boat ( ha ). I stopped working on the boat for a little. It helped me relax, so I was glad I had a guest aboard.

BOAT WORK TO BE DONE

As I was saying earlier, I wanted to start with simple projects that I could cut from the list quick and fix everything really cheap. I started with the water system, as the water pump no longer worked. After I figured out the issues, I replaced the electrical cables and got it working again. It had some strange way when it came to switches and electrical wiring that I didn’t like. I wanted to change that but there were no money and not much time for that either. Turns out my instincts are good, as later on while sailing from Cuba, the water system had a big unpleasant surprise for me. But we will talk more about it at the right time.

FRIENDS AND SAILING TO ALWAYS REMEMBER

My friend Clayton Roach and his wife Irina also invited me to go out sailing on their sailboat at some point. That was fun as I didn’t got to sail much in the past, so every opportunity to practice sailing it was important to me. I can’t really say I was sailing, as I was just steering the sailboat while watching Clayton do the rest, but it was good to learn a few new things and talk about sailing. Me and Clayton got to know each other on a Facebook sailing group I used to be in at some point. I deleted Facebook long time ago as there are too many issues when it comes to privacy and much more. But me and Clayton are still good friends even today.

As I will write more articles here on the blog, there will be more to talk about our friendship. Clayton was the man that actually helped me see with my own eyes how is to go out and sail. His boat used to be a racing boat in the past, but right now she was his escape from life on land now and then. We had a lot of fun going out sailing in the Biscayne Bay a few times. This is how I got to also test Navionics for the first time. I knew nothing about navigation at sea, so this was the only training I could do at that time.

TO BE CONTINUED

As much as I loved having fun sailing, there were still many things to do to prepare my boat for offshore sailing. For that reason we will talk more about my adventures aboard Flashback together with Clayton and his wife in future articles. Right now I will stop here, but we will continue the story in the next videos. This entire sailing adventure is about to have an unexpected turn at some point, not the pleasant kind. We will continue in the next chapter.
