THE ADVENTURE
Before I talk about Cioclovina, let me tell you the funny story about how I ended up here. About an year ago I received an email from Heather / World Genesis Organization asking me if I can install an amateur radio station and an antenna in the camp. So it was the amateur radio hobby that got me in Cioclovina, not photography. I laughed with Gherman and Peter Moon as I was telling them that initially I was convinced 100% that it was a scam.
It turned out there was no scam, so I planned a one day trip to do the install. For some reason I clicked with Gherman right away. It felt like he was the brother I haven’t seen for a long time and I knew him my entire life. I rarely have this feeling. So this is one of the reasons why my one day trip turned into one week. I didn’t mind at all as I had an amazing time there.
The place is also amazing and I felt at home right away. It was really hard to leave trust me, but I had no choice as I also had to get home and finish all sort of work related projects. As you can guess, I planned on returning soon. Maybe next time I come back with a nice video and beautiful landscape photos since it will be autumn. I am really hoping for some great foggy mornings and those fantastic autumn colors that we all love.
CIOCLOVINA SCOUT CENTER
Cioclovina Scout Center is the result of years of hard work that turned a dream into reality. If you wonder who is Laurian Gherman, the answer is the man behind all of this. A magical place where you feel like you just made an incredible trip back in time. I know that the Cioclovina area is famous for Dacic treasures. Honestly the more time I spent here, the more I realized that the true treasures in life are places like this and the people we have around. Gold is just an illusion to keep us away from the real treasures in life. This is the reason why I apreciate people and places so much, not gold. I also met the “Queen Of The Mountains” in here, but more about that in some other story. I have a feeling that is that kind of “to be continued” sort of thing.
The scout center is a traditional household transformed into an activity center for scouts. There are shared rooms with bunk beds, in the style of the classic Romanian mountain cabins. You can also sleep in your own tent if you want as there is enough space for that too. The location is extremely clean, in traditional style. The access to the cabin is made only with an offroad car or by foot. If the conditions are good, you may be able to make it with a regular car as well, but it’s not easy. If you are a fan of luxury locations, you should know that you don’t have anything like that in here. It’s like grandma’s house, which is why I said that I felt at home instantly.
I do have a feeling that Gherman may prepare something for those that are into luxury conditions, but I will keep my mouth shot for now as there’s still lots of work to be done. One thing I can tell you from the time I spent here, is that he is one fantastic host. I guess this is one of the reasons why all who visited would like to return one day, usually bringing friends along.
AMAZING MEMORIES AND PEOPLE
I only spent a week here, but thanks to the beauty of this place and the people I had the chance to meet, it was absolutely amazing. I made a bunch of new friends, and I even forgot why I was here for. I planned some landscape photography trips around, but I only ended up taking quick snapshots here and there. This was only the second time in my entire life when I felt so good in one place. The first time was in Cabo San Antonio in Cuba. The advantage here compared to Cuba, is that we also had Bogdan around, who prepared some amazing meals for us.
I will let you enjoy some of the images, while I say thank you to everyone that made me have such a great time here. Cioclovina is a superb corner of Via Transilvanica, the 1,400km route that crosses Romania. Here you may find Gherman, probably the best guide to explore the Cioclovina area and I really recommend you to visit this place. I know for sure that I will return here very often, especially that me and Gherman became close friends. Actually if you visit this place, chances are you will also end up with many new friends for life, I know I did.
Ending note: I know I didn’t mentioned everyone I met here, but one thing I can ensure you is that you are all deep in my heart and it was a pleasure meeting you all. But we will meet again.
